Open to suggestions here to better handle this one. I’m essentially looking for a way to tag/flag affected ‘Business Systems’ on a Ticket and automatically tag/flag them based on a linked Asset.
Business Systems are things like a certain piece of Software/Resource/Automation/System that a Business relies on. E.g. CRM, MYOB, Results Downloader, DNSRecord, etc.
**Importantly, some Tags might be global while others are Client specific and therefore shouldn’t be globally available.
The goal here is to quickly identify affected business systems when a particular device/asset/component fails.
E.g. I have SERVER2 tagged with the business system tags IIS, eResourcesShare, AVServer & SMTPServer.
If I have a ticket come in with someone reporting that they can’t access the Intranet, I would tag the associated Asset (SERVER2). Now, because that Asset is tagged with all the associated Business System Tags, the Tech immediately know what other ‘systems’ are affected and can prioritise accordingly.
Now, obviously a degree of monitoring might have already flagged said alert in the system. The above is just an example, there are other scenarios where monitoring alerts may not apply or indicate a fault.
Why? I might recall everything associated with a particular Server quite easily…I built it. But another Tech won’t. This gives each Tech the ability to quickly and immediately see the bigger picture and coordinate a suitable response based on affected systems and therefore staff, etc.
Hope that all makes sense!
