Read receipts for invoices

I've had a few clients say they haven't received some invoices, even when it was working fine on previous occasions. Would it be possible to request read receipts to confirm clients have received invoices, and create a new status (eg 'read') that would be updated automatically?

    This is becoming quite a serious problem. Every now and then invoices aren’t received by clients, often for significant amounts. If we can’t have read receipts, we need to be able to use our own SMTP provider.

    Proper email logging would be handy, OR the ability to BYO smtp (i love smtp2go for this, their logging is excellent).
