Assets - Maintenance Mode

At times, it would be nice to put a Device(s) into 'maintenance mode' for a period of time. This maintenance mode would essentially stop any Alerts being generated from the asset. The maintenance mode should allow manual on/off, on with time to auto-switch off, and a way to schedule it. E.g. A weekly maintenance window.

Enable or schedule maintenance mode to silence alerts for a set period and pause checks/plugins/scripts. This can be done via the 3-dot menu or by multi-selecting from the asset list. We’ll soon allow deployment via policies and extend this to Uptime.

Quick look at what we’re doing here:

Thinking this one through — there are two types of ‘maintenance mode’ and a couple of ways to use them.

Type 1: Everything keeps running as normal, but alerts are suppressed for a set period. Good for quick restarts, flaky internet/websites etc.

Type 2: Checks/Plugins/Scripts are paused, and alerts are also suppressed for that period. More suited to longer maintenance where you don’t want any noise or unnecessary actions to occur.

Maintenance Mode can be activated in two ways:

Manually by a user, with a start date/time and duration.

Automatically via a policy with a recurring schedule window (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).

Ultimately we’ll cover all scenarios but let’s start basic. We’re thinking Type 1 + manual activation:

    • ‘Maintenance Mode’ can be toggled on via the Asset and Uptime 3-dot menu

    • The user will get the option of selecting the start date/time, duration in hours/minutes and a reason

    • During Maintenance Mode:

      • We’ll show a banner on the Asset or Uptime

      • We’ll show an indicator on the Asset List and Ticket Detail

      • We’ll log the details to the timeline — who set it, the duration, the reason etc.

A future version will cover the Type 2 and automatic activation.

    Thoughts?

Sounds good. Noting to have the ability to skip adding a duration so turning off Maintenance Mode can be a manual thing.
**I would likely want to create a Device View that shows any Devices with Maint Mode turned on as well to ensure nothing is ‘forgotten’.

Presuming this feature request will include suspending remediations as suggest by Indigo Sandwich, I would merge the following feature request with this one:

To go a step further - It would also need to suspend any remediation scripts, and I think I would want it to suspend scheduled scripts as well.

I think it would also make sense here to allow the maintenance mode to be manually enabled by selecting client, site, or individual device.
